"good morning maryland" begins right now. new information for possible victims of a gynecologist accused of recording patients. where you can now go to get help. breaking news out of kansas city, an explosion causes a huge fire. look at this video. this morning the search continues for any possible victims. fnlts and she is back, robin roberts returns to the anchor desk of "good morning america" coming up immediately after "good morning maryland" on this wednesday, february the 20th. thank you so much for being with us. we'll have a preview of robin's big day back. once again, thanks for starting your day with us. >> all right, charley crowson joins us after being under the wh for two days. oh, it was real. >> it was real, but a good day to be under the weather because the weather kind of stunk and it sounds like it's going to be that way today, right, lynette? >> it's going to be windy today, that's the big story. i know a lot of people don't like those winds because, of course, it's going to make it feel that much colder, guys. stephensville 31 degrees. of course we're feeling more like in the 20s with those winds out of the northwest

about eight miles per hour. you know that northwesterly flow is a very cold flow. ellicott city's temperature coming in at 29 right now with a northwest wind at five. now, let me remind you, these winds right now are sustained. we do have gusts up to about 30, 35 miles an hour for today. pylesville's temperature coming in at 28 with the wind four miles an hour, so we are feeling more like we're in the low 20s. let's switch over, i can show you what's going on right now with graphics. we look at maryland's most powerful radar. now take your eye to carroll county, fredrick county, looks like some snow, right? maybe a few flurries coming down across that area, but not a whole lot. this will dry out as we go throughout the day. we will get some sunshine in here as well, but it will stay cold. look what we have by lunchtime, 35 degrees and the winds are sticking around for a while. let's get a check now of the abc 2 time saver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, lynette. and the wind will be the main concern this morning. don't be surprised if you do see some restrictions in effect for the bay bridge and the key bridge. i will, of course, keep you updated. if you are heading out in howard county, though, nothing to get in your way on

interstate 70. it's nice and clear heading west out towards fredrick and east from colombia pike all the way over to 695. and speaking of the beltway, here's a live look at the northwest corner at old court road. no delays whatsoever. it's going to take you the typical 11 minutes right now on the outer loop from 795 down to 95. and conditions will remain nice and clear over on the east side. you're looking at an 11-minute ride on the outer loop from 95 up to 83. and no concerns this morning on 95 in white marsh. you're looking at a quick four- minute trip to travel southbound from white marsh boulevard down to the beltway. that's a look at your abc 2 time saver traffic. megan and charley, over to you. news time 5:02. we're learning new information in the case of a former gynecologist who was fired from johns hopkins after images of his patients were found. dr. nakita levy died of an apparent suicide earlier this week and abc 2 news' linda stow is live at police headquarters with more on where this investigation stands and we're now learning, linda, the people who might be involved could be going to get help, correct? >>reporter: yes. police have set up a tip line

and counseling services. meanwhile, police have to sift through tons of evidence. they say they recovered images that were found on servers and hard drives and still a lot of unanswered questions this morning. the fbi is working with city police to find out if those images were sent to a larger foark of people. abc 2 spoke to a mother who says she had a bad feeling about dr. nakita levy when she took her 14-year-old daughter to his practice two years ago. the mother says dr. levy was too eager to treat her young daughter, so she left. dr. levy practiced gynecology for 25 years at the east baltimore campus of hopkins. he was fired a few weeks ago when officers executing a search warrant in his towson home found tons of pictures and video recordings of patients that were taken without their knowledge. dr. levy was found dead inside his home this week from an apparent suicide. the mother of the teen we spoke to says she's glad she followed her instincts and went to another doctor. >> i kept asking, well, who would be able to perform her

gyn, and he was coming through and overheard me talking to the receptionist, he was, like, i'll do it, i'll do it. and i said, who's that? >> she said, oh, that's just dr. levy. >>reporter: now here are some new phone numbers you can call to get help. police have set up a tip line, 4-10-392-2269. they've partnered with turn around for victim counseling. police will be looking through dr. levy's entire career and contacting victims as they can, and they will continue this investigation and continue to look through all that evidence. we're live from police headquarters, linda stow, abc 2 news. rchltd today a man want inside connection with a double shooting will turn himself in. clarence johnson, iii of annapolis is accused of killing one person and critically injuring another in an incident last december. johnson says he decided to turn himself in after learning he was one of annapolis' most wanted and seeing his face all over the local news.

it took a jury two hours to find alvin wright, sr. of raping a 13-year-old girl. he faces six life sentences when he goes back to court in may. you might remember this terrible case that stems from an incident that happened october 2011. wright grabbed a girl off the street and raped her several times in his home in east baltimore. that girl survived the attack. one of the most popular shopping districts in kansas city, missouri, and we have breaking news this morning as dprs are sifting through the charred wreckage after an explosion happened tuesday night, injuring more than a dozen people. charley is at the live desk right now with more. and, charley, do they know what led to this explosion? >>reporter: well, you know, megan, investigators in kansas city say a gas leak from a contracting crew caused that explosion that rocked j.j.'s restaurant and a high end club in kansas city. among the dozens injured by the fire, cadaver dogs are still going through looking for three people who remain missing. the explosion sent flames roaring into the night sky and

had more than 100 fire responders on the scene. >> right now what we're trying to do is to complete the investigation, find out what the cadaver dogs find out, if anything, and then we'll go on to the next phase. >>reporter: witnesses say they heard and felt the explosion blocks away. some went so far as to say it shook them to the ground in their houses, rocked violently. now police and firefighters have closed the country club plaza until further notice. and at last check, university of kansas hospital are treating six people from that blast, one person listed in critical condition, two in serious and two others expected to be released. but, megan, there is one person there who had severe burns. they've been moved on to a more highly sensitive area for burn victims. but most of the injuries have been broken bones, not burns and smoke inhalation like what you may expect. >> it's going to be a big story that continues to develop. charley, thanks. news time now six minutes after 5:00. gun control will be the hot topic in annapolis today. sarah brady, a long-time

advocate for gun violence prevention will join our governor at the statehouse. brady's husband, jim, was shot back in 1981 during the assassination attempt of president ronald reagan. jim brady is partially paralyzed. since then sarah and jim have dedicated their lives to protecting families and children from gun violence. the governor is fighting for a comprehensive approach to public safety and violence prevention in the state. and a new study examining the effects of a gas tax hike on the middle class will be released today, and this will be interesting to us. baltimore-based save policy group was commissioned to conduct the study. now last year governor o'malley proposed phasing in a 6% sales tax on gasoline, but the proposal amid those high gas prices. other gas tax increases have been proposed by maryland lawmakers in recent weeks. you'll want to know what that study finds today. she is one tough lady as her story of survival is an inspiration. >> today robin roberts returns

day back for robin, isn't it? >> it is going to be a cold start. it is going to be a very windy start back for robin. i'm so excited she's coming back, guys. let's talk about the temperatures this morning, let's talk about the winds because these are going to be the big story for today. 27 degrees in glenn elle right now, we will have that northwesterly flow, so temperatures are much colder this morning. we're talking about teens, low 20s, and even as we go into the afternoon, we are going to stay cold, so be prepared for that. let's switch over, let me show you what's going on at the surface for today. so this is what's happening behind the front. we have that system that's pushing out over nova scotia, hudson bay, the area of low pressure, and then we have an area of high pressure that's going to build into the south of us, and with that we will have windy conditions. the difference between the two, that pressure gradeient is going to be very tight and with that the winds will be howling all through today and that will continue even as we head through tomorrow. let's check out abc 2's most accurate futuretrend now. i'm going to put this into

motion. not a whole loss going on with this. you might be seeing a few flurries this morning in fredrick county, carroll kointd, just flurry action. that will get out of here. we will get sunshine as we go through the day as well, a sun/cloud mix. as we work our way into friday, the next storm system back off toward the west, right? this storm system will work its way in here so we will have the potential for a wintery mix as well and that will linger into the day on saturday. the planner looks like this as we head through time, just choose the word, windy, blustery, it all means the same. 3:00, 37 degrees, that's going to be our high temperature for today. that's below average. we should be at 45 now for this time of the year. and look at this, we stay below average right through the next several days here. it won't be until the end of the week into next week that we'll start to see temperatures back into the 50s and that will be actually above average. but once again, we are keeping our eyes peeled for that wintery mix as we go into friday and saturday. let's get ch a check now of the abc 2 time saver traffic with lauren cook. good morning, lauren. >>reporter: good morning,

lynette. i'm ready for spring, i don't know p you. if you are heading out on 95, no delays in howard county. it's nice and clear as you do travel north up to downtown baltimore. right now everything is up to speed through the fort mchenry tunnel and the harbor tunnel. for those of you using the beltway this morning, here's a live look at baltimore national pike. no concerns on the west side. and this is going to be the case all the way around, from parkville up to towson, the key bridge is going to be clear, so overall 695 going to be good to go. as you do travel on 83, here's a look just north of the beltway. no concerns as you do make the push into the city. it's going to take you just 11 minutes to travel southbound from the beltway all the way downtown to east fayette street. that's a look at your abc 2 time saver traffic. megan and charley, over to you. memorial herman hospital will take the public into the operating room to reveal what happens during a c-section and provide a glimpse into one family's miracle of birth, and they are going to have a live twitter cast starting at 8:30 this morning. this is twitter's first live

surgical birth, live up-close video and still videography and play-by-play tweets will inform and educate you along the way. so you can follow at houston hospital with the hashtag mh baby. this same hospital also live tweeted an open heart surgery and brain surgery this year, so a lot of people might be interested to see a c-section. drug overdoses now a reason for the 11th consecutive year, but a report from the cdc shows most of those deaths were accidental involving addicted painkillers. despite growing attention to the risk that some of these medicines may have. anti-anxiety drugs were also common uses for medical-related deaths. among the medication-related deaths, 17% were lists as -- listed as suicides. it sounds like a handbook from the 1950s, but that rapist getting pretty heated. >> yeah. this morning the school's response to this controversy and tries to explain the controversial list. forget pepper spray or a

a colorado universities offers up some unusual tips to fend off an attacker and it is causing some controversy this morning. suggestions like vomiting or urinating were posted on the university of colorado at colorado springs' website this week. school officials say that it was a posting from 2006, a self- defense class and it somehow leaked. >> tell your attacker that you have a disease or are men menustrating. i don't see how that would keep them from attacking you. >> for women, we have to cheat to win, we have to go for eyes, ears, the throat, we have to go for a groin strike. >> teachers of the self-defense program knows there isn't a one- size-fitting-all tip for feppedding off a rapist. they say use anything to your advantage that you can, though the suggestions had been removed from the school's website. some women are ready to point, aim and fire if faced by

an attacker. but the weapon of choice is not a gun. in fact it, it's a common household product that's only about $7. it's the growing trend in st. louis. more women are now buying wasp spray as a self-defense tactic. it's kind of like pepper spray, but it shoots farther and you can be direct in better hitting your attacker. >> mace, i think you have to be closer for the could actually get the mace and put it on you. >> the st. louis county police department said it's better to use items for the intended purpose and is also against federal law to use wasp spray for purposes other than what it's listed for on the can. i did not know that. >> just wasps, i guess. well, if someone asks you what brand you're wearing, it's unlikely you'll say, do you like this, it's from the united states postal service. >> really? that's going to be changing soon, a way to raise money for the financial-floundering business you aren't the only one hit by those high gas prices that we've been seeing. imagine if you had more than 80

looks like we're going to have to pay for a little bit of that success. for the first time in four seasons, the newly crowned super bowl champions the baltimore ravens, how about this, the ticket price rs going up? how do you like the sound of that? >> i don't like it. >> tickets will cost $62 to $it 140 a seat. what's the team going to do with the money? they'll keep try to go win super bowls. the ravens sold out every game they have played at m and t bank stadium. the u.s. postal service has been delivering mail in the rain, snow and the gloom of night for hundreds of years. now the agency is struggling to

find the revenue sources it's hoping now that you'll have interest in some of the things that they wear. the agency announced plans to come out with a line of clothing and accessories called rain, heat and snow. the first line for men will be released next spring. the line for women is also currently in the works. gas prices are high and now it could affect you even while you're trying to buy a car. a california car dealership has stopped offering those free test drives and it's because of the high gas prices. before you can even get the keys to test drive a car, a lot of dealerships are now having new requirements. they're asking people to fill the tank back up where it was when they left the lot. and a lot of this is to make up for people who test drive the car and have no intention of ever buying it. well, little girl is recovering in the hospital this morning and her dad thinks hand sanitizer may have led to her injuries. >> we'll explain. this is a strange story with a weird connection between the germ killer and an unexpected fire. it's one of the most boring car chases in history, but the extreme caution makes a little more sense when you find

"good morning maryland" continues in just a few moments. >>reporter: good morning. topping "america's money," gas makes a run for the record. prices have risen almost a buck in the past month at a time of year when they're usually low. gas is already over $5 a gallon in some cities. all those merger and acquisition deals are lifting wall street to new heights. the dow opened almost 36 points above 14,000, the highest in more than five years, and that's it only 130 points away from the record. and google stock is also rising high. it broke $800 yesterday for the first time, closing at almost $807 a share. that puts it just behind apple and exxon mobile in net worth. and asterbuck's fan claiming the record, something called the quadrojen. the price was $47. that's more than twice the previous record, but because it was his birthday, he got it for free it. that's "america's money," i'm
